1994 Nissan 240SX - McMeekin Bros
"Engine Swap?...We're Doin' It Backwards Here; New Car, Antique Engine."
I saw this 240SX from quite a distance and recognized it as Nissan iron immediately. Needless to say I kicked up a salty rooster tail getting over to the car to check it out and talk with the owners. Expecting an SR20DET or the mighty RB26DETT Skyline bullet I was dumbfounded; the putrid rankness of salt attacking my tastebuds as my jaw dragged in the Bonneville slush as I gazed at a flathead V8? Dave McMeekin said, "we're doin' it backwards here; new car, antique engine."
The best thing about Bonneville is the diversity of cars and car/engine combinations. If you're a purist (import or otherwise) you need to check you preconceived notions at the asphalt because it's not 'what' it is; it's how 'fast' it is that counts around here.
I talked to Jane McMeekin about the car and my facts are a little sketchy as the shock of that flathead was hard to shake. As I have it, Don drives the car in the XF/G-ALT category. Jane got her license in the car in XF/GC configuration and posted a two-way average of 149.97 mph, a new record. I remember the car being in impound, which meant it was one run away from a record so this seems to make sense. Life is indeed a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get (when you pop the hood).
